SAP S4 Hana with IS-Mill

Mill products companies' objective is to deliver profitable growth without over-exploiting the environment by running collaborative supply chains, optimizing manufacturing, and offering best-in-class customer experiences.

The following features (only indicative not exhaustive) in SAP S4 Hana for IS-Mill helps to attain the above objective.

DIMP (Discrete Industries Mill Products) as Standard solution

The SAP IS-Mill solution is now a part of the standard S4 Hana Business Suite for both Cloud and On-Premise version. To use the standard IS-Mill functionality, we must activate certain DIMP relevant business functions.

Finished Goods Material Master and Work Centre optimised

SAP PP/DS for S/4HANA allows the user to use PPDS in a more simplified way where the user doesn’t have to worry much about Core Interface (CIF)

New tab for “Advanced Planning” has been introduced within create Material master transaction which would tell whether the material should be considered for planning immediately in PP/DS. It includes the data like planning procedure, horizon, plan explosion etc…

Similar way, work centre also has a check box for ‘Advanced Planning’.

S/4HANA has made it simple for the master data CIF.

MRP Live within S4 Hana enhances customer experience

The vital feature of MRP Live is it minimizes the volume of the data that are copied from database server to application server and back, which considerably improves the performance.

One material can be planned across multiple plants. This helps in the case of Stock transfer from one plant another plant. Stock transfer requirements can be known in supplying plant without planning in receiving the plant.

Reel Calculation (Specific for Cable Industry)

We use the reel calculation to determine the correct reel for a length of material. The Reel Calculation determines the optimal combination of cable length and reel. The combination is optimal when the reel can accommodate the cable length without causing damage. If the reel is too small or too large, the cable (and the reel) could be damaged. The system determines not only the optimal reel for a specific cable length but also the smallest possible reel, because this is usually the least expensive.

Mass Processing of Manufacturing Orders - Characteristic Selection

This function enables the user to select manufacturing orders that have a common characteristic and characteristic value and to further process the orders using the standard transaction.

The user can only use this function for production orders or process orders. The user specifies in the entry screen the characteristic and characteristic value. The already created manufacturing orders with characteristics and characteristic values are selected accordingly.

Non-Ferrous Metal Processing

NF Metal Processing mainly addresses non-ferrous metals industry sector (copper, aluminium) in which prices can change drastically within minutes or seconds. The prices are determined by London Metal Exchange (LME) globally.

NF Metal Processing in SAP is not limited to NF Metals only. One can use NF processing for any type of goods if the prices do change within short periods of time, or pricing agreements with customer depend on future pricing dates.

Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling (PP/DS)

The functionality of APO PP/DS is available since SAP S4/HANA 1610. Functionalities included are Characteristic Dependent Planning (CDP), Long Products Planning (LPP) and Multiple Output Planning (MOP).

Integrated business planning (IBP) shall be the future solution for Demand Planning, Sales and Operations Planning for Supply Network Planning (SNP). GATP or CTP check during sales order creation shall be included as a part of standard S4 Hana business suite.

Product Costing for Make-to-Stock & Unit Costing for Make-to-Order.

Production order is used to track product cost by order in discrete manufacturing. The prerequisites from the master data point of view are setup of material master, bill of material, work centre, and routing.

Sales Order Costing can be activated at Quotation or Sales Order level for Make-to-Order scenario. The approximate contribution margin of the Finished goods can be estimated from the planned cost. This can be done through “Unit Costing”. Periodic “Product costing” can be done for Make-to-Stock scenario.

Mill Order Combination

We can combine operations of different production orders and even from different materials, posting a single confirmation, as the work is executed together, in the same work centres. Multiple outputs for multiple Make-to-Order (MTO) and Make-to-Sock (MTS) requirements.
